Before you can legally operate as a driving i
nstructor in the UK, you have to pass the Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) examination. This involves a theory, hazard perception test and practical driving test similar to the current tests for learner drivers and a practical test of your ability to instruct, where the examiner role plays a learner driver.
The requirements for entry on to the Official Register of Approved Driving Instructors are:-
- Be over 21 years of age
- Hold a full UK or European Union car driving Licence.
- Have held it for a total of at least four out of the past six years prior to entering the Register after qualifying.
- You will need to apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for a Criminal Records Check
